Baby in harms way

This baby bird was sitting at my doorstep the other day. I was just about to let my dog outside. I'm sure my dog would have eaten it in one gulp had I not noticed the mother chirping away. Lucky for the baby I went outside by another door to see what the excitement was all about. I don't know what kind of bird this is. The mother is very small and sings a beautiful song. I hope she can keep her baby safe. Talk about putting you child at risk!
