Earth Hour March 29, 8-9pm

What are you doing for earth hour?

Canada has one of the highest participation rates around the globe. Over 150 cities are participating.

We are turning off the tv, vcr, dvd, computer, stove, lights, and going for a walk outside for an hour. Maybe taking a few pictures in the dark.

South Grey Museum Tea Party in Flesherton

The Mad Hatter makes her way through the beautiful museum gardens, while visitors tasted teas in the pavilion behind the museum.

There were many teas to choose from; Lime Balm, Margareta Mint, Bee Balm, Sweet Pear Mint, Spearmint, Pineapple Mint, Chocolate Mint and others that I can't remember. Many of the teas came from the museum's own Heritage Gardens. Munchies containing herbs were served including lavendar cookies. Yum! The tea pots added their own charm to the event.

Eugenia Cenotaph

This cenotaph has been restored to its former glory, thanks to local volunteers. Many hours were spent restoring the white marble and the iron fence about 5 years ago, by members of the Flesherton Legion. The gardens have been weeded and planted by members of the Eugenia District Community Improvement Association and the Friends of Eugenia Falls. We are grateful to those who care enough to put in the effort. A plaque has also been put up to dedicate the ginkgo tree.

Notice the ginkgo tree leaves to the top left. This tree was planted here around 1920. Do you wonder who would have been able to get a Ginkgo tree in 1920? This was just after WWI, how could anyone bring a Ginkgo tree here to Eugenia at that time? No one knows for sure why it was planted here, but the legend is very interesting. How does it relate to the cenotaph? Visit the Eugenia Gold Rush Days on July 14, 2007 at 11 am to find out.
