Some of the organizers are getting tired, quitting plus costs are rising making it difficult to make money. A meeting is planned for Nov 26 and a motion will be made to disband the festival unless more volunteers come forward.

It was a beautiful evening and watching the sunset was a bonus. We don't paddle in the dark, this was near the end of our excursion around the island.

I often hear other paddlers comment on how lucky we are to live in this area, and how beautiful it is out on Lake Eugenia. I agree.

Lovely Vandeleur Community Park is a peaceful place to stop for a break.

If driving country roads is something you love to do, this is a great route to drive. Travel north of Flesherton on Hwy 10 and turn right on Grey Road 32. Vandeleur community park is on Grey Road 32.

In May a cleanup crew came to Eugenia Falls. The group included Chris Hatchey from Grey Sauble Conservation Authority. They brought out junk that was thrown into the gorge or river, including a picnic table. However the stuff got there, it was a lot harder to bring it out.

Flesherton's former school was destroyed by fire recently. It is unfortunate because it had interesting architectural details worth saving. The building was run down and needed major repairs. The roof leaked and  was probably going to collapse unless someone spent a lot of money on renovations.

Saturday May 17, was the official launch of "Empress Eugenia" at the public beach. After a bottle of champaign and a few short speeches, the boat was out in the lake, paddled by a crew of about 20 people.

We are turning off the tv, vcr, dvd, computer, stove, lights, and going for a walk outside for an hour. We've had many snow days and days when children aren't in school in the past 2 weeks. All the roads in Grey and Bruce County were closed for one day last week. Today we're shovelling ourselves out after a heavy snowfall.

Almost knee deep snow kept us off the roads until the plow came through. On November 10th between 1-4 pm I went to the rock identification event at South Grey Museum with the rock shown above. Geologist Peter von Bitter, a museum member and curator at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto was there to identify it for me. I had no idea what it was.

Peter told me that it was a Stromatoporoid, a kind of sponge 430 million years old. The trees are tinged with a bit of red and yellow.

This was taken at Flesherton Pond, the old mill pond, a lovely place to swim. The old mill is still there, now a private residence.
